Alien Arrays: Visual Multiplication
Master Repeated Addition in the Specimen Lab
Welcome to Sector 7-G. In Alien Arrays, children step into the role of a Chief Xenobiologist. Their mission? To organize and catalogue discovered alien lifeforms using the power of Arrays.
This game provides a vital visual bridge between simple counting/addition and the more abstract concept of multiplication (e.g., seeing "3 groups of 5" rather than just counting 15 individual aliens).
🧠 Why Arrays Matter
Arrays (organizing objects into rows and columns) are one of the most powerful tools for teaching early multiplication. They help children visualization:
- Commutativity: Seeing that 2 rows of 5 is the same total as 5 rows of 2.
- Repeated Addition: Understanding that 5 x 3 is really just 5 + 5 + 5.
- Structure: moving away from counting one-by-one to counting in groups.

👀
Spot Arrays in Real Life: specific egg cartons (2x6), muffin trays (3x4), or window panes. Ask "How many rows? How many in each row?"

🗣️
Use the Language: Say "3 groups of 5" or "3 lots of 5" aloud while playing to reinforce the vocabulary.
