Angle Academy
Mastering Geometric Reasoning through Calculation
Welcome to the Angle Academy, where precision meets logic. This Year 5 geometry game challenges students to move beyond simple measurement and into the realm of geometric reasoning. By applying known facts about angles, players must calculate unknown values in a variety of classic geometric scenarios.
🏛️ The Curriculum Challenge
In Year 5, students are expected to move from identifying types of angles to calculating them. Angle Academy provides targeted practice for the following National Curriculum targets:
- Identify angles at a point and one whole turn (total 360°).
- Identify angles at a point on a straight line and half a turn (total 180°).
- Identify other multiples of 90°.
- Calculate unknown angles in polygons using deductive reasoning.
How to Graduate
- Analyse the Diagram: Look at the visual representation. Is it a straight line? A full circle? Or vertically opposite?
- Apply the Rule: Use your key facts (e.g., Straight lines always equal 180°).
- Calculate: Subtract the known angle from the total to find the missing variable 'X'.
- Solve: Enter your answer and hit the "SOLVE" button to move to the next challenge.
Teacher & Parent Tips
Encourage students to verbalise their reasoning. Instead of just guessing, ask: "What do we know about that line?" or "If this part is 90 degrees, how much is left over?" Understanding the why is the key to mastering geometry.
