Lilypad Leap
HOP INTO FRACTIONS!
Ribbit! Welcome to the pond. Lilypad Leap transforms the abstract concept of Fractions into a visual jumping adventure.
This Year 3 Maths Game focuses on seeing fractions not just as parts of a shape, but as specific numbers on a number line between 0 and 1.
🐸 How to Play
- See the Fraction: Look at the target fraction (e.g., 2/3).
- Scan the Line: The number line goes from 0 to 1. The lilypads are spaced out evenly.
- Count the Hops: If the denominator is 3, the line is split into 3 parts. Jump to the 2nd part for 2/3.
- Make the Leap: Click the correct lilypad to help the frog land safely!
📚 Curriculum Focus (Fractions)
Lilypad Leap directly supports the Year 3 National Curriculum:
- Fractions as Numbers Recognise and use fractions as numbers: unit fractions and non-unit fractions with small denominators.
- Counting Fractions Count up and down in tenths; allow that tenths arise from dividing an object into 10 equal parts.
🧩 Tips for Parents
The Ruler Method:
- "Think of the number line like a ruler."
- "Where is halfway? That's 1/2."
- "If we cut the line into 4 pieces, where is the first cut? That's 1/4."
Designed for UK Year 3. Compatible with White Rose Maths "Fractions".
