High Voltage Calculation

City Blackout Imminent! The Neon City runs on pure mathematical processing power. In Neon Multiplier, you are the Chief Engineer tasked with restoring the grid using Long Multiplication.

This game provides a structured, cyberpunk interface for solving complex 4-digit by 2-digit calculations. It removes the clutter of paper and pencil, allowing you to focus on the algorithm.

The Protocol (Standard Algorithm)

To solve $1234 \times 56$:

  • Step 1 (Units): Multiply 1234 by 6. Write the result.
  • Step 2 (Zero Placeholder): Drop a zero on the next line (because you're multiplying by 50, not 5).
  • Step 3 (Tens): Multiply 1234 by 5.
  • Step 4 (Total): Add the two rows together to get the final power output.

Engineering License (Year 6)

Long Multiplication Multiply multi-digit numbers up to 4 digits by a two-digit whole number using the formal written method.
Estimation Use estimation to check answers to calculations and determine, in the context of a problem, an appropriate degree of accuracy.

👨‍👩‍👧 Tech Support

Common bugs to watch out for:

  • "Forgetting the magic zero! When you move to the tens column, you MUST put a zero placeholder first."
  • "Messy columns lead to wrong addition. Keep your digits aligned like a grid!"
