Shape Sorter
The Ultimate Factory of Geometry!
Welcome to the factory! In Shape Sorter, you are the quality control manager. Your job is to sort incoming shapes into the correct bins based on their properties.
This game is a brilliant way for Key Stage 2 students to master Venn Diagrams and Carroll Diagrams naturally.
🏭 How to Play
- Read the Labels: Look at the bins. One might say "Red Shapes", another "Triangles".
- Inspect the Item: A Red Triangle comes down the belt.
- Sort It: Drag it to the correct bin. If it's a "Both" situation (Intersection), find the bin that accepts both!
📚 Curriculum Focus (KS2)
Shape Sorter covers advanced geometry and statistics goals:
- Sorting Data Interpret and construct pie charts, line graphs and use these to solve problems (Sorting diagrams).
- Complex Shapes Compare and classify geometric shapes based on their properties and sizes.
- Logic Understanding "And", "Or", and "Not" logic in sorting (e.g., "Not Red").
🧠 Categorical Thinking
Sorting is a fundamental mathematical skill. It teaches children to look for attributes and relationships.
By using a "Factory" format, we take the abstract concept of a Venn Diagram and turn it into a concrete task: putting things where they belong.
👨👩👧 Tips for Parents

- "Let's sort the cutlery. Forks here, spoons there."
- "Can we find something that is 'Round' AND 'Metal'?" (Pan lid).
