Square & Cube Numbers Game: Square Squad
Calling all heroes! Square Squad is the ultimate superhero training ground for spotting square and cube numbers. Designed for Year 5 pupils, this game makes mastering exponents explicitly fun through comic book battles.
How to Play
- Identify the Power: Look at the hero's attack. Is it Squared (²) or Cubed (³)?
- Calculate: Work out the value. Remember: 5² is 5 × 5, not 5 × 2!
- Defeat the Villain: Enter the correct answer to launch a powerful attack.
Understanding the Maths
- Square Numbers (²): A number multiplied by itself. E.g., 3² = 3 × 3 = 9. Visually, these numbers form a perfect square.
- Cube Numbers (³): A number multiplied by itself twice. E.g., 2³ = 2 × 2 × 2 = 8. These form a 3D cube.
Curriculum Goals (Year 5)
"Recognise and use square numbers and cube numbers, and the notation for squared (²) and cubed (³)."
