Master Your Times Tables: Fun Practice for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
Welcome to your one-stop shop for times tables practice! Our fun and interactive game is designed to help children in all primary year groups master their multiplication skills. It’s the perfect tool to build confidence and speed, especially for pupils preparing for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC).
What is the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)?
The Multiplication Tables Check, or MTC, is a statutory assessment for all Year 4 pupils in England. It’s an on-screen test designed to check a child’s fluency with their times tables up to 12×12. The test consists of 25 questions, with only 6 seconds to answer each one.
Our game is built to perfectly simulate the MTC, giving your child a realistic practice experience. By using our tool, they can get used to the speed and format of the real check, helping to reduce anxiety and improve their performance on the day.
How Our Game Helps You Practise for the MTC
Our Multiplication Tables Check Practise game is packed with features to support your child’s learning, no matter their level:
Customisable Practice: Choose specific times tables to work on. Is your child struggling with their 7s or 8s? No problem! Just select those tables to target areas that need improvement.
Realistic MTC Simulation: With 25 questions and a 6-second timer per question, our game mirrors the exact format of the Year 4 MTC.
Instant Feedback: The end-of-game results table gives you a detailed breakdown of every question. You can see the question, your child’s answer, the correct answer, and whether they were right or wrong. This is fantastic for identifying patterns and focusing on specific facts to practise.
Fun for All Ages: While it’s perfect for Year 4, this game is beneficial for everyone!
Why is Times Table Practice So Important?
Having rapid recall of multiplication facts is one of the most important foundations for success in maths. It frees up a child’s working memory to tackle more complex problems involving fractions, percentages, and even algebra later on. As the experts at The Teaching Couple explain in their article, regular practice is crucial for building this essential skill. You can read more about their insights here: How important is it to practice timestables in primary school?
