The Legend of the Primes

Can you navigate the ancient maze? Move your explorer from the Start to the Treasure by stepping ONLY on Prime Numbers.

Prime Number Maze: A Mathematical Adventure

Prime Number Maze is an interactive logic puzzle designed to help Key Stage 2 children (ages 7-11) master the identification of prime numbers. By gamifying the concept, students move from rote memorization to active problem-solving.

How to Play

  • Start: You begin at the Green Square (top left).
  • Goal: Reach the Treasure (bottom right).
  • The Rule: You can only move Up, Down, Left, or Right onto squares containing a Prime Number.
  • Beware: Squares with Composite Numbers (numbers with factors other than 1 and themselves) are traps!

What is a Prime Number?

A prime number is a whole number greater than 1 that cannot be made by multiplying other whole numbers. It has exactly two factors: 1 and itself.

  • 2 (Only even prime!)

Educational Benefits

This game supports the National Curriculum for Mathematics, specifically the requirement for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils to:

  • “Know and use the vocabulary of prime numbers, prime factors and composite (non-prime) numbers.”
  • “Recall prime numbers up to 19” (and recognize them up to 100).
  • Develop logical reasoning and spatial awareness.
