Fraction Feast

The Tastiest Way to Learn Halves & Quarters!

Welcome to the Fraction Feast! In this delicious game, children explore the two main ways fractions appear in the real world: as parts of a shape (Pizza) and as parts of a quantity (Cookies).

Designed for Year 1 and 2, it reinforces the golden rule of fractions: Equal Parts. A half isn't a half unless both pieces are the exact same size!

πŸ• Two Game Modes

1. Pizza Kitchen (Shapes)

The Chef calls for a specific slice shape (e.g., "A Quarter"). Look at the pizzas on the shelf. Some are cut into 2 pieces, some into 4. Pick the one that matches!

2. Cookie Cafe (Quantities)

You have a tray of cookies (e.g., 8). You need to put "1/2" of them on the serving plate. Drag the cookies one by one to share them equally.

πŸ“š Curriculum Focus (Fractions)

Fraction Feast covers the core KS1 objectives:

  • Halves (1/2) Recognise, find and name a half as one of two equal parts of an object, shape or quantity.
  • Quarters (1/4) Recognise, find and name a quarter as one of four equal parts.
  • Thirds (1/3) Recognise, find and name a third as one of three equal parts (in advanced levels).

🧠 The "Equal Parts" Rule

A common misconception is thinking that any shape cut into 2 pieces is "halved".

This game specifically tests this by including "trick" pizzas that are cut into uneven chunks. Children learn that fairness (equality) is the key to fractions.

Sandwich Surgery:

  • "I'm going to cut this sandwich into Quarters (4 pieces)."
  • "If you eat 1 quarter, how many are left?" (3 quarters).
  • "Is a half bigger than a quarter?" (Show them physically).

Bon AppΓ©tit, Mathematicians!
