🧠 Key Strategies
Same Denominator
When denominators are the same, just add/subtract numerators:
3/8 + 2/8 = 5/8
7/10 - 3/10 = 4/10 = 2/5
Related Denominators
When one denominator is a multiple of the other, convert to common denominator:
1/2 + 1/4 = 2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4
2/3 - 1/6 = 4/6 - 1/6 = 3/6 = 1/2
Simplifying
Always simplify your answer by finding the GCD:
6/8 = 3/4 (divide both by 2)
9/12 = 3/4 (divide both by 3)
