Fraction Fleet

MASTER THE SEAS OF MATHS!

Ahoy there! Fraction Fleet is a swashbuckling educational game that challenges students to master the art of Comparing and Ordering Fractions.

Designed for Year 3 sailors, this adventure requires you to organize the Pirate Fleet by the size of their sails (fractions). Only the sharpest captains can dock their ships correctly!

How to Play

  1. Spot the Ships: A fleet of ships arrives, each with a fraction on its sail (e.g., 1/2, 1/4, 1/8).
  2. Compare the Values: Remember, the larger the denominator, the smaller the piece! (1/8 is smaller than 1/4).
  3. Dock in Order: Drag and drop the ships into the docking bays from Smallest to Largest.
  4. Earn Yer Treasure: Correctly ordering the fleet awards you gold coins for your chest!

📜 Curriculum Focus (Fractions)

Fraction Fleet aligns directly with the Year 3 National Curriculum objectives:

  • Unit Fractions Compare and order unit fractions (fractions with 1 as the numerator).
  • Same Denominators Compare and order fractions with the same denominator.
  • Visualising Size Understand that non-unit fractions represent multiple parts of a whole.

🦜 Tips for Parents

The Pizza Analogy:

  • "Would you rather have 1/2 of a pizza or 1/8?" (1/2 is much bigger!)
  • Explanation: "The bottom number (denominator) tells us how many slices the pizza is cut into. More slices means smaller slices."
  • Draw circles to visually compare the fractions if your child gets stuck.

Designed for UK Year 3. Compatible with White Rose Maths "Fractions".
