Sort & Sequence

The Ultimate Logic & Pattern Challenge!

Everything has its place! Sort & Sequence is a dual-mode puzzle game designed to sharpen Logical Thinking and Pattern Recognition.

Perfect for Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2, this game asks students to categorise objects by their properties (Sorting) and predict what comes next in a rule-based series (Sequencing).

🔢 How to Play

Mode 1: Sorting

  1. Read the Rule: E.g., "Sort by number of sides".
  2. Drag & Drop: Move the triangles to the "3 Sides" box and squares to the "4 Sides" box.
  3. Check: Press the button to verify your logic.

Mode 2: Sequencing

  1. Observe the Pattern: Red, Blue, Red, Blue...
  2. Predict: Drag the correct item into the empty slot to continue the sequence.

📚 Curriculum Focus (Algebra & Geometry)

Sort & Sequence covers foundational skills that underpin later algebraic thinking:

  • Properties of Shapes (Year 2) Identify and describe the properties of 2-D shapes, including the number of sides.
  • Sequencing (Year 1/2) Order and arrange combinations of mathematical objects in patterns and sequences.
  • Categorisation (KS1) Grouping objects based on a specific criterion (colour, size, shape, type).

🧠 The Logic of Maths

Maths isn't just numbers; it's the study of patterns. By identifying the "rule" behind a sequence or a sorting group, children develop the exact type of analytical thinking needed for coding and algebra.

👨‍👩‍👧 Tips for Parents

Tidy Up Logic:

  • "Let's put the toys away. Red cars in this box, blue cars in that one." (Sorting).
  • "Lay the table: Fork, Knife, Spoon. Fork, Knife... what comes next?" (Sequencing).
  • "Which one is the odd one out? Why?"

Designed for UK Years 1 & 2. Compatible with White Rose Maths "Place Value" and "Geometry".
