Travel Tracker: Network Control
Interpret Distance-Time Graphs
Incoming Data Stream... Welcome to the Control Centre. As the Shift Manager, you must monitor the rail network by interpreting complex data feeds.
Travel Tracker is a Year 6 Statistics game that turns abstract line graphs into real-world stories. Has the train stopped? Is it speeding up? Only the data can tell us.
📊 DATA INTERPOLATION
-
🛑
FLAT LINE = STOPPED Time is passing (moving right), but distance is not changing (not moving up). The train is at a station.
-
📈
STEEP LINE = FAST A steep gradient means a lot of distance is being covered in a short amount of time.
-
📉
DOWNWARD LINE = RETURN If the line goes down, the distance from the start is decreasing. The train is coming back!
Year 6 Statistics
Line Graphs
Interpret and construct pie charts and line graphs and use these to solve problems.
Problem Solving
Calculate and interpret the mean as an average. Solve comparison, sum and difference
problems.
📡 CONTROLLER LOG (Parents)
Real world tracking:
- "Look at this fitness app graph. When was I running the fastest?"
- "Check the battery usage graph on your phone. When was it draining quickly?"
- "Draw a graph of your walk to school. Don't forget the stop at the crossing!"
